VCMG is an open discussion list for announcements and discussions of MG and gardening-related topics. The list is private and membership is limited to trained Master Gardeners and MG trainees. How to Unsubscribe To unsubscribe from this list, you will need your list password. Go to the member options page, enter your email address, then click on the Remind button under Password reminder. You will receive an email with your password and further instructions. Posting Guidelines Please limit posts to MG and gardening-related topics. Please practice good email habits. Make your subject line descriptive of post content. Please move longer discussions of limited interest to the larger group to private email. Where possible, cite references or sources for horticultural information you post. To share garden photos, please use a Web-based service like Webshots [www.webshots.com] or Flickr [flickr.com] and include only a link in your message. If you post a photo, make sure it is of appropriate size for email. Be aware that if you use fancy backgrounds and formatting in your messages, it may cause delivery problems (spamcanning) or problems for recipients with older computers and email programs. Always get permission from the sender before quoting text from private email. Members of this list are expected to observe commonly held and understood rules for behavior in an electronic forum. In other words, play nicely with the other children. Plant sales Advertising the following types of non-commercial or private sales is acceptable: giveaways or private plant sales (aka Support The Habit sales) fundraising plant sales by non-profit organizations (e.g. Herb Society, Grand Prairie Friends, etc.) Shoppers' alert Although commercial advertising as such is not allowed, it is acceptable to post recommendations or a shoppers' alert for a commercial nursery, a landscaping service, garden center or online catalog provided you are not affiliated with the business in question. Sale or trade of personal garden items You may post personal garden items for sale or trade. Please add FOR SALE, WANTED, or TRADE to the subject line. Subscribers may be moderated, suspended or removed from the list at the administrators' discretion for the following reasons: The subscriber is not an active Vermilion County Master Gardener. The subscriber's e-mail address is causing repeated delivery failures. The subscriber's e-mail address has posted malware to the list. The subscriber chooses not to abide by the list guidelines set out above. Special security note from your Listmom We continue to see instances of email with links to potential malware site being posted to the list from members' hijacked PCs or email accounts. If a post with no subject or a subject unrelated to MGs or gardening appears on the list, I strongly recommend you delete it without opening it, especially if you use Microsoft Outlook for your email. (This, by the way, is just one more reason to use meaningful and descriptive subject lines.)
Using VCMG
To post a message to all the list members, send email to vcmg@lists.communitylists.org. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below.
Subscribing to VCMG
Subscribe to VCMG by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's decision by email. This is also a private list, which means that the list of members is not available to non-members. Your email address: Your name (optional): You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription.
