Hello and Happy Holidays!

As we look to flip the calendar over to 2021, I'm reminded of most years when we seem dumbstruck that the new year is already upon us. This time around, we're looking forward with glee and welcoming it to come quicker!

We appreciate all of your help, your partnership, and your referrals during 2020. In fact, we have built up a stable of tutors who we can't put to work yet! Right now, we're making a push to recruit more learners. If you can reach any clients or friends of your organizations who might need help with their reading, writing, math, or English language skills, please let them know about us, or pass their information along if you have their permission to do so.

Project READ will break when Parkland breaks for winter: Dec 24-Jan 3, and then we'll be right back at it!

We have two tutor trainings scheduled for January 2021:

Introduction to Tutoring - Friday, January 15th: 10AM-12PM

Introduction to Tutoring - Wednesday, January 27th: 6PM-8PM

Due to changes on Facebook, we have not been able to include your organizations as co-hosts. If you follow our page, please share these events freely. (They'll be posted today.) We have the following blurb to be included where space allows in your newsletters or social media posts reflecting our Zoom training sessions:

"Project READ (parkland.edu/projectread<https://outlook.office.com/mail/projectread@parkland.edu/search/id/parkland.edu/projectread>) helps adults improve their skills in basic reading, basic math, or English as a second language. This program is made possible by volunteers who give their time to improve the quality of life for hundreds of people in our community. They are now hosting trainings and tutoring sessions via Zoom. During normal times, tutors and learners meet regularly at the Champaign Public Library, The Urbana Free Library, Wesley Food Pantry, Champaign Unit 4 Schools, Immigrant Services of Champaign-Urbana (formerly CU FAIR), Rantoul Public Library, and many other public places in our community and throughout our region. Tutors might be homemakers, retirees from any profession, college students, working professionals, or former adult learners. Learners are older teens and adults age 17 to 80+, who want to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
