Subject: Age-Friendly Survey

Dear Steering Committee Members,

Thank you for all of your help with the development of the survey. The electronic version is now complete and available online. It would be of great help if you could help to promote the survey in your networks.

There will be an article in next Sunday's News Gazette about the survey and Age-Friendly Initiative by Chelsey Byers-Gerstenecker from the U of I Extension Office. Additionally, we will be making efforts over the next several months to promote both the electronic and paper versions of the survey across the community. I am including a message about the survey below.

Best,

Wendy

A dedicated group of community leaders are spearheading the effort to enter the Age-Friendly community network with the goals of making Champaign-Urbana more livable for community members across the lifespan.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has developed a set of guidelines for communities who wish to seek "Age-Friendly" status and has designated AARP as their representative of this effort in the United States. Together they have institutionalized a process to help communities prepare for upcoming demographic shifts with regard to older adults. This process involves organizing community stakeholders to evaluate, plan, and implement strategies to improve the lives of older adults in our community.

To that end, we are seeking the voices and opinions of community members aged 50 and older to better understand both our strengths and weaknesses as a place to grow older.

To make your voice heard, please participate in our survey:
