As we develop Aging and Disability Resource Centers it is vital that advocates work together to prevent further cuts in state funding for Medicaid and community-based services and supports for older adults and persons with disabilities.
Please review the message (below) from Tom Wilson with Access Living about Valentine Day action to preserve and protect Home Care Services.
Thank you.

Subject: Valentine Day Action to preserve/protect Home Care Services.
ON Feb. 15 call Governor Quinn at his Springfield Phone numbers :
217-782-0244 TTY: 888-261-3336 or in Chicago at 312-814-2121.
Dear friends:
Once again we are asking you to be the voice for people with disabilities. We do not have big dollars to influence legislation; we have you and your dedication to making life better for yourself and all people with disabilities. Because the threats to Medicaid and disability services are severe we are planning 2 days of action before the Governor’s budget address. Our main concern is cuts to the Home Services Program and to CIL funding. The last 3 years have been a challenge to disability advocates as the state budget has been repeatedly attacked and there have been significant cuts. Because we have been aggressive and organized we have been able to largely stop any Home Service Cuts. This year is a continuation of the ongoing state budget crisis and many politicians of both parties have talked about the need for deep Medicaid cuts.
Our job is to persuade them again that they get real value from the Home Services Program and that it saves them money in other areas of the budget like health care and decreased institutional spending. The Governor’s budget address is Feb. 22nd and we want to communicate our concerns before any bad news is delivered.
The Taskforce for Attendant Services and ADAPT have decided to start our campaign early to let the Governor and the Budget Director know that these programs are essential to keeping people with disability living in the community and having a safe and decent quality of life.
On Feb 14th we will be meeting at the Thompson Center food court in Chicago at 1:00 pm. to then deliver Valentines to Governor Quinn’s office and the office of the Budget Director, David Vaught. The Valentine will deliver our message that the Home Service Program is vital to our people. It will suggest that we will be nice to them if they do the right thing in the budget and fully fund Home Care Programs.
On Feb 15th we will be doing a phone blitz on the Governor and the Budget Director. Our message is: Do not cut the Home Services Program! And that we need to Protect people with disabilities from unnecessary institutionalization, Invest in a Home and Community infrastructure, Enforce the Olmstead mandates and Strengthen the Home Service Program as the way to really do long term care. We are calling this message our we love PIES message.
EVERY CALL COUNTS! WE NEED YOU TO BE INVOLVED!
SOME CUTS NEVER HEAL; DON’T LET THEM CUT HOME SERVICES! [cid:image004.jpg at 01CCE713.A8D79F80]
