I4A Advocacy ALERT

I4A - the Illinois Association of Area Agencies on Aging urges advocates
for Illinois Seniors to contact your State Legislators and urge them to
craft a fiscally responsible solution to our State's budget crisis.

The 13 Area Agencies on Aging have spent the last three years assessing
the readiness of 46 communities in Illinois for the aging of the
population as part of the Maturing of Illinois Initiative. We have made
much progress, but there is much work yet to do.

Today there are 2.2 million persons 60 years of age and older in
Illinois. By 2030 that number will increase by 64% to 3.6 million.

We must have the resources to respond to the needs of today's seniors
and ride the "agewave" as it rolls in over the next 20 years. We cannot
cap funding for human services when we face unprecedented growth in the
number of older adults who will need home and community-based long term
care.

Call your State Legislators today. You can use the AARP Illinois State
Budget Hotline at 1-800-664-9903.

Thank you.

Subject: Call in number

We have set up a call in line for people to reach their legislators the
call to action is as follows:

The State of Illinois is facing a fiscal crisis - and Illinoisans are
looking to their elected officials in Springfield to show the leadership
needed to implement tough, comprehensive and long-term solutions to our
fiscal crisis. Many Illinoisans are already suffering the consequences
of our budget crisis through diminished resources, depleted services,
and vanishing opportunities.

Make Your Voice Heard Now!

Call the AARP Illinois State Budget Hotline at 1-800-664-9903 and urge
your State Legislators to craft fiscally responsible solutions to our
state's budget crisis.

Thank you.

As many of you know there is a lot going on right now. One issue that
is moving quickly are constitutionally capped spending limits. This
would likely result in drastic contraction of resources available for
human services, education and other state funded programs. So if you
can include in your message to your legislator your request for them to
oppose constitutional spending limits. Also for those of you that work
with programs that keep people out of institutions it is a good time to
let them know that the state must take this opportunity to rebalance its
long term care system and allow for funding to move from institutional
settings to the community. Rebalancing is getting a lot of attention
now and we need to show as much support for it as we can.

Thanks
