I4A Action ALERT

As a member of the Illinois Association of Area Agencies on Aging,
ECIAAA is participating in a statewide call-in today to urge our State
Senators and Representatives to Save Our Seniors, Save Our State, and
pass a responsible budget for FY2011.

I4A is partnering with AARP to provide a toll-free number:
1-800-719-3020 to help you make your calls.

ECIAAA asks all community programs on aging serving older adults in East
Central Illinois to begin making your calls at 10:30 a.m. today.

I4A has provided a sample message below.

We must make our voices heard on behalf of older adults and their
families and the programs that serve them. Please make your calls
today. Thank you.

- Mike O'Donnell, I4A Legislative Committee Chairperson, and
Executive Director, ECIAAA

Older Illinoisans Phone Lobby Day

Let your voice be heard May 3, 2010!

Call your state legislator using this 800 number. 1-800-719-3020

When you dial the number you will hear a short message about the State
Budget and then it will ask you for your Zip Code. You will have the
option to choose to talk with either your Senator or Representative. We
suggest you call twice so you can talk with both of them.

Below is a message that you can use.

Good morning (or afternoon)

My name is ______________and I work (or volunteer) or receive services
from ________ in the town of _________. I'm calling you with an urgent
message to save our seniors, save our state, and pass a responsible
budget before the end of session.

I'm particularly concerned about proposed cuts to community based and
community care services, and cuts to Illinois Cares Rx. These are
critical services that allow us to serve hundreds of thousands of
seniors across the state. And these are services that save the state
money! If you cut them, seniors will be forced into nursing homes,
tripling the cost to taxpayers!

You have the ability to save these programs, and save our seniors!
Please make sure we have a responsible budget that ensures these
critical services are available.

Thank you.

It is the final hour. We must do our best to let our voices and the
voices of those we serve be heard. On May 3, 2010, with the assistance
of AARP, we will be hosting a call-in lobby day for our network.
Attached is a flyer that you can distribute to you consumers and
volunteers. AARP has graciously offered to handle the media statewide.
We need to get as many calls to our legislators as possible. Have as
many people call as you can.

Our region's time to call is 9-9:30 a.m. If people cannot call in at
the specific time that is fine but we do not want to clog the lines so
try to stick to you region's time. You can call up to 2:00 p.m. Please
share this message with everyone. Please feel free to use the message
attached or adapt it to suit your needs. You will be calling the
Springfield office and will probably get staff. The message is short so
it will be easy to give to a receptionist.
