<p>Creating a landscape for butterflies is very similar to designing a habitat for any other species of wildlife. Like birds and mammals, butterflies have the same basic needs for survival: water, food, and shelter. With these basic needs in mind, you can evaluate your garden and begin adding or improving the elements that are missing. The Vermilion County Master Gardeners have invited one of their own to shed some light on this fascinating subject.</p>
<p> Vermilion County Master Gardener Mattie Wallace is well known for her expertise with butterflies and enjoys sharing what she has learned through research, trial and error. Join her on Tuesday, July 18 at 6pm at the Danville Public Library for a ‘hands on’ presentation with specimens of monarchs, swallowtails and other butterflies. Is half eaten parsley really such a bad thing? What about the benefits of clover and violets? Are they more than just weeds? Is your fall clean-up removing the very butterflies you wish to attract? Landscaping for butterflies is fascinating and a four season project. Learn how you can help them thrive at each stage of their life cycle and increase their numbers in your garden.</p>
<p>There is no charge for this program but we ask that you please register or call the Vermilion County Extension Office at 217-442-8615 so we have enough materials for all attendees.</p>

<p>Brenda Molano-Flores, Ph.D., will be giving a presentation on Forensic Botany on July 25th from 7-8 pm at the Champaign County Extension office. She will give a brief introduction about forensic science and then will focus on forensic botany and the different areas associated with the field. For each area, she will include case examples. </p>

<p>Conference features two special speakers, Awards Ceremony and tours of area garden sites and nurseries. Do a little shopping at the silent auction while you support statewide Master Gardener programs. All for only $40 per person. Add in the pre-conference tour and it's just $75 a person for the full package. Master Gardeners may bring one adult guest. All participants must register separately.
