<p style="text-align: left;">A second-grade teacher at Leal Elementary is looking for a couple of Master Gardeners or Master Naturalists to help at their Annual Science Night. The event is on Friday, April 28th from about 6:30-8:00pm. It is generally very well attended. Last year they helped us to make seed tape for vegetable gardens. This year however, we were given native prairie plant seeds, and milkweed seeds. The volunteers would help students and families plant some pollinator/native seeds. This could be done in peat pots with soil, or they could even make "seed bombs". We can provide most or all of the materials, we just need the knowledge and volunteers to get the seeds used effectively. Education about the importance of native plants and pollinator plants would be great too. <p style="text-align: left;">The City of Urbana is hosting another rain barrel and compost bin sale on May 6 from 9am to noon at the parking lot North of the City Building on Vine St. Pre-order is mocked up at <a style="color: #4276aa;" href="https://illinois.edu/emailer/forward2/8632352?emailAddress=ccmg-announce@lists.communitylists.org&orderId=7"><span style="color: #4276aa;">www.RainBarrelFundraising.com/Urbana</span></a>. They would love to have an Extension table set up at the event with some public education on water conservation and composting. <p> As more research comes forward on the importance of saving pollinators, we often find ourselves asking “how?” Helping the native butterfly and bee population can be done directly from your own home garden by taking some proactive steps in planting specific plants and designing your garden with pollinators in mind. As an added benefit, in addition to helping pollinators increase their numbers, your garden can reap extra beauty by being a safe haven for butterflies and bees.<br /><br />The East Central Illinois Master Naturalists invite you to attend the presentation “Gardening for Bees & Butterflies” at the Champaign County Extension Office (801 N Country Fair Drive, Champaign). This program will take place on April 17 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.<br /><br />Heather Holm, author of Pollinators of Native Plants, will discuss how you can design your garden to be mutually beneficial for pollinators and yourself. Heather has a background in horticulture and biology and has done collaborative research projects focusing on native bees with University of Minnesota Extension.</p>
<p>There will be a $10 charge to attend this program. </p>

<p>The Champaign County Master Gardeners welcome Theresa Meers, Horticulture Professor at Parkland College, as she presents <em>All About Lawn Care</em>. Theresa will instruct homeowners on how to practice efficient and environmetally friendly lawn care maintenance.</p>
<p>The program is <strong>Tuesday, April 25 at 7 p.m.</strong> and is at the Champaign County Extension office: 801 N. Country Fair Drive, Champaign. This program is free and open to the public.</p>
