<p>It is time again for the Wake Up the Garden Workday! This year's workday will take place on Friday, <strong>March 31st</strong> at <strong>12:30</strong> at JDC, 400 Art Bartell Rd., Urbana. There are two raindates in place: Thursday, April 6th and and Monday April 10th both at 12:30, though hopefully they will not be necessary! <strong>Bring garden rakes, pruners, wheel barrows, and shovels to scoop mulch & compost. </strong></p>

<p>The Champaign County Nursing Home Garden is ready to wake up the garden! The first official workday is planned for Monday, <strong>April 3 at 9 AM</strong>, with a raindate scheduled for Monday, April 10. The garden is located on the east side of the Nursing Home--park in the main parking lot and follow the fire lane to the fenced-in area. We'll be cutting back grasses and sedums, so <strong>bring your pruners and grass shears</strong>.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Announcing the opening of the Horticulture Hotline on <strong>April 3rd</strong>! During the “busy season,” April – October, the Master Gardener Office is staffed by interns and Master Gardeners. MGs answer questions on flowers, vegetables, insects, plant disease, turf, trees, landscaping, and more! Interns are required to complete 10 hours of service at the Horticulture Hotline to become certified. <p>The Champaign County Master Gardeners welcome Eliana Brown as she presents Water & Home Landscape Ecology Aesthetics. Eliana will describe the importance of water conservation and how we can implement it in our home gardens, marrying ecology with aesthetics.</p>
<p>Eliana is the stormwater specialist with the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and the Illinois Water Resources Center. She is an expert in regulatory aspects of wastewater and stormwater programs and green infrastructure.</p>
<p>The program is Tuesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. and is being held at the Champaign County Extension office: 801 N. Country Fair Drive, Champaign. This program is free and open to the public.</p>

<p> As more research comes forward on the importance of saving pollinators, we often find ourselves asking “how?” Helping the native butterfly and bee population can be done directly from your own home garden by taking some proactive steps in planting specific plants and designing your garden with pollinators in mind. As an added benefit, in addition to helping pollinators increase their numbers, your garden can reap extra beauty by being a safe haven for butterflies and bees.<br /><br />The East Central Illinois Master Naturalists invite you to attend the presentation “Gardening for Bees & Butterflies” at the Champaign County Extension Office (801 N Country Fair Drive, Champaign). This program will take place on April 17 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.<br /><br />Heather Holm, author of Pollinators of Native Plants, will discuss how you can design your garden to be mutually beneficial for pollinators and yourself. Heather has a background in horticulture and biology and has done collaborative research projects focusing on native bees with University of Minnesota Extension.</p>
<p>There will be a $10 charge to attend this program. </p>
