CE: 4-Seasons Gardening Webinars

The 2017 4-Seasons Gardening Webinar series is set to begin January 31! Here are the first three webinars for the year:

Seed Starting - January 31 at 1:30 pm and February 2 at 6:30 pm

Growing plants from seed is both rewarding and cost effective. Join Kim Ellson, Extension Horticulture Educator, as she discusses key elements for successful seeding this spring. Strengthen your skillset and learn about germination triggers, breaking dormancy, scheduling, seeding methods, damping off and hardening.

How to Have Healthy Houseplants - February 14 at 1:30 pm and February 16 at 6:30 pm

Houseplants add life and beauty to a home. Rhonda Ferree, Extension Horticulture Educator, will provide simple tips to select and care for houseplants. After this program, even those with “brown garden thumbs” will know how to have healthy houseplants throughout their home.

Moth Orchids – Start an Orchid Odyssey- March 7 at 1:30 pm and March 9 at 6:30 pm

As the most highly evolved flowers on earth, orchids are an amazingly diverse plant family growing in deserts, mountains, marshes, northern woods, Illinois forests, and even our homes. If you are looking for an easy-to-grow but elegant houseplant, moth orchids are a great option. In this webinar, state Master Gardener Coordinator, Sandy Mason, will help you learn how to grow, repot and even rebloom moth orchids.

As with last year, you can register to view live at 1:30 p.m. from the Champaign Extension office conference room OR from your home computer at either 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays or 6 p.m. on Thursdays.

Keynote Address by Chris Benda, botanist and President of the Illinois Native Plant Society on “Illinois Wildflowers for the Home Garden.” With so much of the state converted to agriculture and urbanized areas, it is so important that

Homeowners create mini-refuges on their properties when possible. Native wildlife needs native plants to survive. Learn how to create such a habitat using easy-to-grow species available at local nurseries.

Morning Session with Local Certified Floral Designers. They will inspire us all with “Floral Arrangements: So Alike yet So Different” as they use like flowers to produce unique arrangements, all while sticking to the principals of design.

Choose from 39 horticulture topics for four Workshops.

Shop at dozens of exhibitors – bring your checkbook or cash; few offer credit card transactions.

Learn about many horticultural specialties from new and familiar exhibitors.

Bid on unique items at the Silent Auction with proceeds to benefit local Master Gardener projects.

Visit the "Ask a Master Gardener" WJBC Radio Panel to ask your gardening questions!

Online registration will open on January 9, 2017. Register early for workshop choices — First-come, first served. Registration closes February 23, 2017, or when registration reaches 260 attendees. Cancellations will be accepted until February 23, 2017, for a full refund; no refunds will be granted after February 23.
