<p>Please remember to pick up your lime green Garden Walk “Volunteer” t-shirt! Shirts are ready for pick at the Champaign Extension office and are located underneath the countertop in the Horticulture Hotline. They are labeled alphabetically for quick pick-up!</p>
<p>As a reminder, all Master Gardener volunteers are required to wear these t-shirts when volunteering day of Garden Walk. </p>

<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Volunteers are needed for the Horticulture Hotline!</strong> </span><strong><em>As a reminder, you are not required to answer homeowner’s questions immediately.</em></strong> We encourage you to kindly tell the homeowner that we will respond to questions within 48 hours with the best researched answer we can come up with.</p>
<p>If the Horticulture Hotline is having a slow day, you are welcome to bring personal material to work on (books, laptop, etc.) while waiting for a homeowner.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><strong><em>Pollinator Pocket People Training</em></strong></span></p>
<p>Are a Master Gardener or Master Naturalist who is interested in promoting pollinator conservation efforts across the state? BEE a positive influence on pollinator populations and become a Pollinator Pocket Person! </p>
<p>A Pollinator Pocket Person will serve as a liaison between the University of Illinois Extension Office and home gardeners, civic groups, and organizations interested in learning about Pollinator Pockets. This training will equip volunteers to be able to give talks and presentations to groups wanting to learn more about Pollinator Pockets, and serve as a source of science-based information for groups interested in installing pollinator-friendly gardens.</p>
<p>Pollinator Pocket People agree to log 10 volunteer hours and 1 continuing education hour per year to remain active. This time counts towards the required 30 volunteer hours and 10 continuing education hours for the MG/MN programs. Click the links below to view details for each training session:</p>

<p>Attendees will have a choice of four 4 inch premium annuals and potting soil for a 12 inch container. You may bring a larger container and pay for extra potting soil.</p>
<p>This event takes place at Danville Gardens, 1307 Cleary Ave. Class size is limited to 30 people and attendees must register and prepay $25 at the Extension office <u>not</u> Danville Gardens.</p>
<p>Container is <u>not</u> included-bring your own and make something special! Danville Gardens will remain open for attendees so you have time to do some extra shopping. Some plants will be on sale.</p>

<p>This workshop will show you how to create and enhance pollinator habitat on your farm, from the perspectives of Thelma Heidel-Baker, IPM Specialist with the Xerces Society, and Wes Jarrell and Leslie Cooperband, owners of Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery who have been fostering pollinators on their farm for over a decade.</p>
<p>Pollinators are essential to farming and ecosystem health. Bees, butterflies, bats, birds, and more all play a part. With the ongoing loss of pollinator habitat, it is important for conscientious landowners and managers to protect and enhance this habitat. Bringing pollinators back to the landscape is not only beneficial to our prairie ecosystem, but can also benefit the farm's bottom line. <p>Join the Ford-Iroquois County Master Gardener for their FIRST Garden Walk!</p>
<p>University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners serving Ford and Iroquois Counties invite the community to their inaugural Garden Walk on Saturday, June 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year’s event will feature four home gardens in Paxton and the Loda Cemetery Prairie Nature Preserve, a remnant of the original tallgrass prairie native to the area.</p>
<p>This is a brand new event for the Ford-Iroquois County Master Gardeners which they hope to make into an annual springtime showcase. Attendees can expect to see shade gardens, vegetable gardens, shrub borders and a petunia pyramid. Several gardens also feature eclectic garden art ranging from bottle trees to birdhouses and much more.</p>

<p>Round Barn Center is at the south west corner of Mattis and Springfield in Champaign. The bus will be in the parking lot in back and south of the business buildings and the red Round Barn. You can enter off of Springfield or off of Mattis on Round Barn Road. Cars can be left there. Look for the Peoria Charters Bus!</p>
<p>Cost (includes bus and bottled water on the bus) -- $43 per person. Cost does not include lunch. Admission to the Botanic Gardens is free. <strong>Registration deadline has been extended to Monday, June 20.</strong> Please make your checks payable to the Champaign-Urbana Herb Society.</p>

<p>The Chicago Botanic Garden has 23 gardens, 9 islands, 81 acres of waterways, featuring nearly 2 million plants. Also, there are a café and a gift shop on the grounds. Champaign County Master Gardeners welcome Susan Biggs-Warner of the Vermilion County Conservation District as she presents Cooking with Herbs on Tuesday, June 28 at 6:30 pm. This will be a hands-one, mouth-watering presentation as samples will be available of herb delights. Recipes of each dish will be distributed.</p>

Our tour will also include a visit to the Garfield Park and Conservatory in Indianapolis, a guided tour of Asheville, a visit to the North Carolina Arboretum and the Blue Ridge Parkway.</p>
