Horticulture Hotline

The Horticulture Hotline will open its doors for business on Monday, April 11. By working in the office, you stay up-to-date on how to control, identify, and remedy some of the biggest problems in a season. The Horticulture Hotline is one of the best ways to get involved, get immersed, and LEARN more about horticulture. Plus, you can count your hours in the Horticulture Hotline as either Volunteer or Continuing Education hours.

As a reminder, you are not required to answer homeowner’s questions immediately. We encourage you to kindly tell the homeowner that we will respond to questions within 48 hours with the best researched answer we can come up with.

Still not sure about the hotline? View Vermilion County Master Gardener Terry Collier's testamonial (above) about his first experience working the Horticulture Hotline.

New this year, you can sign up for a 2-hour shift vereses a 4-hour morning or afternoon shift. This was done to make it easier for you to fit a few hours of volunteer time in your busy schedule. If you would rather work an entire morning, or afternoon, just sign up for two 2-hour shifts!

Master Gardener interns will also need some guidance! Please sign up to support them on their first day of the job!

If the Horticulture Hotline is having a slow day, you are welcome to bring personal material to work on (books, laptop, etc.) while waiting for a homeowner.

You don't have to be a regular volunteer with any of these gardens to join them on their workday! All Wake-Up-the-Gardens are open to Master Gardeners as extra hands are needed to revive the garden from its winter slumber!

These workdays are also a great opportunity to meet other Master Gardeners and experience the variety of community gardens we manage as Champaign County Master Gardeners!
