Friday, March 11 at 12 p.m.

Nicole Bridges, coordinator for the partnership between University of Illinois Extension and Prosperity Gardens, recently returned from a 21-day volunteer position in Ethiopia. This position helped a group of women smallholder farmers whose lives rely on agriculture by proving support on vegetable production and post-harvest management. Bridges also gained information on how post-harvest loss affects communities in Ethiopia.

Please join University of Illinois Extension Serving Champaign, Ford, Iroquois, and Vermilion Counties for a lunch-and-learn session on Friday, March 11, from 12-1 p.m. at the University of Illinois Extension Auditorium in Champaign. During this session, Nicole Bridges will share her experience in Ethiopia; including how she worked within the communities she served.

While Ethiopia has a generally favorable climate for the production of many vegetables, it as a whole suffers from loss of crop due to poor post-harvest handling processes. Ultimately, in addition to the immediate benefits the communities have felt from Bridges’ expertise on post-harvest loss, she hopes that the personal relationships she developed through her trip will provide a direct link for sharing research from University of Illinois Extension.

To make this free event as convenient for the public as possible, we encourage you to bring your own bagged lunch and RSVP ahead of time by calling 217.333.7672 or visiting our website at web.extension.illinois.edu/cfiv. While pre-registration is not required, it is appreciated as it will help us determine how to set up the auditorium.
