<p>The Champaign County Master Gardeners come together each February to recognize outstanding Master Gardeners. On <strong>Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m.</strong>, light deserts will be severed followed by the announcements of the following award winners:</p>

<p>Following the award reception, Champaign County Master Gardeners Juanita Gammon and Jessica Lopez will present <em>Color and Design in the Garden.</em> They teach gardeners how to assess an area to create an exquisite landscape that has color and interest.</p>
<p>Juanita Gammon is a talented local artist with an exceptional talent and eye and has taught art classes for decades. Her artistic nature coupled with her gardening knowledge gives her excellent credibility for incorporating color and interest in the garden.</p>
<p>Jessica Lopez is a trained Landscape Design has been designing local homeowner gardens for years. Jessica and Juanita serve as the Border Coordinators at the Idea Garden. In this position, they assist and encourage the borders garden design. </p>

<p>Keynote speaker will be Doug Tallamy, professor in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware. Tallamy will discuss the important ecological roles of the plants in our landscapes, emphasize the ecological, educational, physical, and emotional benefits of designing landscapes with these roles in mind, and explore the consequences of failing to do so. Managing landscapes in this crowded world carries both moral and ecological responsibilities that we can no longer ignore. Tallamy’s book <em>Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens</em>, was published by Timber Press in 2007 and was awarded the 2008 Silver Medal by the Garden Writers' Association. The Living Landscape, co-authored with Rick Darke, was published in 2014. Among his awards are the Garden Club of America Margaret Douglas Medal for Conservation and the Tom Dodd, Jr. Award of Excellence.</p>
<p>Along with the keynote speaker, 13 additional gardening classes will be offered throughout the day. Classes include topics on beekeeping, growing great tomatoes, native shrubs, summer bulbs, seed starting, building an insect hotel and many, many more! Doors will open at 8am for registration, vendor shopping and book signing by Tallamy. Keynote speaker is at 9:00 a.m. and classes begin at 10am.</p>
