An assortment of snacks will be provided along with coffee and tea.</p>

<p>A trip to <em>Sunrise Nursery</em> in Grant Park, IL has been arranged for anyone interested on Thursday, April 23. Arrive at 10:00 am to get a behind the scenes tour of this enormous and efficient nursery. Master Gardeners will earn 1 hour of continuing education for participating in the tour.</p>
<p>Master Gardeners who wear their name badges will receive a 10% discount on plant materials after the tour. Vermilion County Program Coordinator, Jenney Hanrahan (<a style="color: #4276aa;" href="mailto:jhanraha@illinois.edu"><span style="color: #4276aa;">jhanraha@illinois.edu</span></a>) will be available to make community garden plant purchases.</p>

Attendees will make their own mini-succulent container with Vermilion County Master Gardener, Charlie Cullom. Charlie is a representative for International Greenhouse Supply in Tilton, IL and has done this workshop in the Danville area. Charlie will share his knowledge about succulents, including design options and growing requirements.</p>
<p>All supplies and plants will be provided: just bring your gloves and trowel and join in the fun!</p>

<p>The Horticulture Hotline is for business on Monday, April 9. By working in the office, you stay up-to-date on how to control, identify, and remedy some of the biggest problems in a season. The Horticulture Hotline is one of the best ways to get involved, get immersed, and LEARN more about horticulture. Plus, you can count your hours in the Horticulture Hotline as either <em>Volunteer </em>or <em>Continuing Education</em> hours.</p>
<p>As a reminder, you are not required to answer homeowner’s questions immediately. We encourage you to kindly tell the homeowner that we will respond to questions within 48 hours with the best researched answer we can come up with. Two Master Gardeners can sign up for each shift, so bring a buddy!</p>

<p>The issue of climate change is often a polarizing topic of debate in the United States. For many, the science behind Earth's ever changing climate is a confusing and complex topic, which makes it difficult to understand the nearly constant stream of news on this subject. </p>
<p>Join East Central Illinois Master Naturalists as they sponsor a lecture open to the public that will focus on the clear and concise science of climate change. The lecture will be held at the Champaign County Extension office at 801 N. Country Fair Drive, Champaign. <strong>Registration is due by Friday, April 10</strong>.</p>
<p>As caretakers of this planet, stewardship and conservation are core elements of our mission and through this talk, we will learn about natural variability in the Earth's climate and how humans interact with these natural cycles. Furthermore, we will learn the reasons why climate change is a source of debate and confusion and talk about ways to actively and intelligently participate discussions on this topic. The aim of this talk is equip the audience with the latest, peer-reviewed, scientifically accepted information on climate change. Through this presentation, we will gain insight and clarity into the impacts of Earth's changing climate.</p>
<p>The speaker, Eric Snodgrass, is the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Atmospheric Science at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.</p>

<p>The Expo showcases the work of the U of I Prairie Research Institute, home of the Illinois Natural History Survey, State Archeological Survey, State Geological Survey, State Water Survey, and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center. It provides an opportunity for students and the general public to learn more about the natural and cultural resources of the state as well as see the latest in research and technology used to map, preserve, and experiment to better understand our environment. </p>

<p>Dr. Michael Jeffords and Susan L. Post who will be presenting "From Blooms to Butterflies."</p>
<p>Both are retired scientists from the Illinois Natural History Survey who have spent most of their lives exploring the landscapes of Illinois. </p>
<p>Drawing from their new book, A Field Guide to Illinois Butterflies, they will expand their presentation to address the crucial role of pollinators in the landscape. Also, learn how and where to have a Big Year discovering Illinois Butterflies.</p>
<p>Their field guide, Butterflies of Illinois, and new book Exploring the Nature of Illinois, will be available for purchase at the event.</p>

<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Registration is officially open for friends/family of Master Gardeners!</strong></span></p>
<p>Champaign, Ford, Iroquois and Vermilion County Master Gardeners will be traveling to the Indianapolis Museum of Art to view the Oldfield’s Gardens on <strong>Friday, May 1</strong>. The day will include a tour of the Oldfield gardens, followed by an afternoon of enjoying the museum. The bus will stop at Avon Gardens in Avon, IN on the trip home.</p>

<p>The bus trip costs $35. Museum admission and the Guided Garden Tour are included in the price of the bus trip. Lunch will be on your own. The cost does not include gratuity. An envelope will be passed day-of for gratuity donation.</p>
