Dear Master Gardeners,
Spring of 2017 is around the corner. With the world renewing, we in the Extension office are correcting our volunteer databases and online reporting systems. It is a joy to review volunteer hours submitted by our hardworking, devoted volunteers.
In order to remain a part of the Champaign County University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener Program, one must submit an annual 2017 Volunteer Agreement.  Master Gardeners Interns who are still working on completing their internships do not have to sign this agreement as the training agreement signed is sufficient until active volunteer status is achieved.
Please complete and return your agreement by Monday, January 9. You may mail, email, or hand deliver the agreement.

Signing a Volunteer Agreement confirms your understanding of the position you hold as a volunteer and representation of the University of Illinois Extension. It also certifies your safety. Those who have turned in agreements are registered for accident insurance program, which assists with payments for medical emergencies that occur while volunteering.
Here are the top 3 reasons why you should sign the agreement and agree to volunteer:

  *   So we can provide safety and medical assistance in case an emergency occurs while volunteering.
  *   So you can be a member of a horticulturally-minded society whose passionate to grow plants matches their love for the community!
  *   Free plants! (Master Gardeners are relentless givers!)
If personal or medical reasons inhibit you from volunteering this season, please contact me by email or phone. Master Gardeners can request an Alumnus or Inactive/Leave of Absence status. Alumnus status is when a former Master Gardener who has completed the training, but no longer volunteers. Inactive/Leave of Absence is a Master Gardener who is unable to fill requirements due to health, family, or personal reason. A Master Gardener can use either status for 1-2 years and return to active.
If we do not receive an agreement by Monday, January 9, we will assume that you are no longer interested in the program and your status will be declared Inactive. After that time, you are welcome to contact me to change your status and become an active Master Gardener.
