V: Requesting Presenters on Garden-Related Topics
As spring rolls in (isn’t it spring yet?!), local libraries, groups, and other volunteer programs are searching for speakers versed in garden-related topics. Do you have a topic that you’re particularly passionate on? Love butterflies, vegetables, lawn management, water retention, landscape design, or native plants? Then sign up to present!
Times and dates vary depending on your (speaker) availability, location, and group preference.

CE: Idea Garden Section Leaders Needed
Several sections of the Idea Garden are in need of Chairs/Co-chairs. Whether you’re a natural leader, or more of a worker bee, these chair positions will be a good fit for you! All Idea Garden sections have a great workforce and devoted volunteers behind them, but need a standing representative for communication purposes.
What does being an Idea Garden Chair/Co-Chair involve?
* Enjoys being outside
* Coordinating regular workdays
* Values plants and gardeners alike
* Coordinating consistent communication (via email, texts, or calls)
* Designing/implementing design for the section
* Going on Ava’s regularly scheduled shopping days for garden purchases
* Encouraging teamwork

CE: Bi-State Gardening Conference

Are you a gardener who is looking to improve his or her garden? Do you have a small gardening space or desire to incorporate edible plants into your home garden? Join the Purdue University Extension and University of Illinois Extension Bi-State group for the annual Bi-State Gardening Conference.
The annual Bi-State Gardening Conference will be held at The Beef House Restaurant at 16501 Indiana State Road 63, Covington, Indiana, on Thursday, Jan. 28. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. EST (4:30 p.m. CST), and the presenters will begin at 6 p.m. EST.
Speakers during the Gardening Conference will include Jennifer Nelson, University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Educator, who will present “Vegetable Gardening in Small Spaces,” and Jim Schmidt, University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Specialist, who will present “Edible Landscaping; Choices and Challenges.”
The cost for the conference is $20, which includes a Beef House Restaurant dinner. Master Gardener Education Hours will be awarded to Master Gardener attendees.

CE: CCMG Monthly Program – Color and Design in the Garden & Master Gardener Awards Reception
Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m.
The Champaign County Master Gardeners come together each February to recognize outstanding Master Gardeners. On Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m., light deserts will be severed followed by the announcements of the following award winners:

* Golden Trowel
* Making a Difference
* Friend of a Master Gardener
Following the award reception, Champaign County Master Gardeners Juanita Gammon and Jessica Lopez will present Color and Design in the Garden. They teach gardeners how to assess an area to create an exquisite landscape that has color and interest.
Juanita Gammon is a talented local artist with an exceptional talent and eye and has taught art classes for decades. Her artistic nature coupled with her gardening knowledge gives her excellent credibility for incorporating color and interest in the garden.
Jessica Lopez is a trained Landscape Design has been designing local homeowner gardens for years. Jessica and Juanita serve as the Border Coordinators at the Idea Garden. In this position, they assist and encourage the borders garden design.
This program is for Champaign County Master Gardeners only. As food is being served, registration is required.

Home, Lawn and Garden Day, March 5, 2016 is the ideal place to get inspiration for future garden projects, fall in love with a must-have plant or learn the basics of everyday Gardening. University of Illinois Extension's McLean County Master Gardeners host their 13th annual Home, Lawn and Garden Day just in time to beat the winter blahs. The University of Illinois Extension presents a weekly educational series for the small farm community. This series will provide practical knowledge on emerging topics which advance local food production in Illinois. These online presentations will give small farm producers a look at how leading practices in production, management, and marketing enable operations to improve profitability and sustainability. This year's series includes new topics such as farm pond ecology, producing Shiitake mushrooms, the emerging local grain economy in Illinois, raising meat birds on pasture and growing great blackberries.

During this special time of the year, take the time to reflect on the Master Gardener volunteer(s) who've really made an impact on you during the 2015 gardenign season! Now is the time to nominate fellow Master Gardeners and special community members for the Making a Difference and Friend of a Master Gardener award.
The Making a Difference Award honors Champaign County Master Gardeners who, through their initiative, commitment, and quiet, unselfish service, enrich the CCMG program. Any active Master Gardener may nominate someone for this award. Multiple awards may be given annually. Usually presented at the February Master Gardner Program.
