Hi everyone. It learned today that not everybody realizes that the
Cultivator for July and August is published. Ava included an announcement
and link for it in her weekly announcement email last week. Just scroll
down to "Miscellaneous" and you will find the link, or just go online (
https://web.extension.Illinois.edu) to find it. It is a big beast--30
pages and lots of photos, including some of mine from the Chelsea Flower
Show. Diann Thoma and I were on the same amazing trip, so I assure you that
you want to catch her presentation on the 29th. I plan more articles and
photos from the trip for upcoming Cultivator editions as well. But for a
quick peek at Chelsea, check out this edition of the Cultivator.
And I am currently accepting articles and material for the September
and October issue of the cultivator. Please submit those to me by August 15.
Thanks everyone.
Enjoy the sunshine and stay cool.

*VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES*
*V: Horticulture Hotline*
July’s muggy weather and June’s consistent rain makes for sad, wet plants.
Homeowners need YOUR help identifying their plant problems and helping them
with plantings suggestions in their landscapes! Volunteers are needed for
the Horticulture Hotline for the remainder of the gardening season.
*Intimidated by the hotline? Don’t be! Grab your Master Gardener buddy and
serve on the hotline together. Also, you are not obligated to serve the
full 4 hours (serve for 1 or 2).*
Have questions on how your time in the hotline will be spent? Email me, Ava
Heap, at carmien2 at illinois.edu.

*Tuesday, July 28, 1:30 pm*
Yes, you can take great photos of your landscape--and it has very little to
do with the camera you use! Whether you shoot with a digital SLR,
point-and-shoot or even your phone, you can take frame-worthy photos. All
you have to do is learn a few techniques, and then shoot. Chris Tidrick
will teach you the basic techniques of garden photography that can be used
with the camera you already own.

*CE: East Central Illinois Master Naturalist Present “Native Trees and
Shrubs”*
*Monday, August 10 at 6:30 pm*
Have you ever considered how important your garden or property is to
sustaining life? We live in a world dominated by urban landscapes, with
wildlife habitat being lost at an alarming rate. You can help balance this
loss by creating new habitat with a well-planned landscape of native
plants. Enjoy the pleasure of more butterflies and birds visiting your
garden. Discover that native plants succeed with less maintenance than the
alternative. Enjoy the natural beauty of plants evolved over thousands of
years to thrive in this habitat.
The East Central Illinois Master Naturalists (ECIMN) invite you to learn
more about planting native trees and shrubs on your land by attending a
public seminar:
- *Monday, August 10 *
- *6:30-8:00pm *
- *UI Extension Auditorium, 801 N. Country Fair Drive, Champaign, IL
61821*
<https://web.extension.illinois.edu/registration/?RegistrationID=12703> to
register.*
